Rescuers Without Borders save stray dogs.
Fortunately, there are caring individuals who devote their time to assisting animals in distress.
Rescuers Without Borders is one organization dedicated to saving the lives of as many homeless dogs as possible.
They will sometimes search landfills for stray dogs looking for discarded food.
They came across Kratos, an 8-year-old Kangal shepherd who was all alone in the world.
“I wish I had the right words to explain why we do this.” The amount of heartache, tears, and sorrow we experience on a daily basis pales in comparison to what they must endure. There are lives among the trash. “This is what they call home,” wrote Rescuers Without Borders of dogs living in landfills.
Kratos had no food or water.
The poor dog would have to make do with whatever food he could find. However, competition for resources was fierce in the area, as more than 800 other dogs lived in the landfill.
When winter temperatures arrive, things become even more dangerous for the dogs.
Freezing temperatures add another danger.
Kratos was cold, hungry, and exhausted when the rescuers discovered him. He appeared to be prepared to give up. He couldn’t stand because he was so weak.
He didn’t have the strength to continue, let alone scrounge for food. His life would be over if no one stepped forward to assist him.
Something miraculous happened before Kratos succumbed to starvation and the elements.
Rescuers Without Borders workers picked up the dog and took him back to their shelter, where he was given food, water, and the medical attention he required.
Crystal Carson, co-founder of the organization, explained how they decide which dogs to save from the landfill.
“It’s difficult to choose, but we often choose puppies because they can’t survive in the landfill,” Carson told The Dodo. “Last year, we lost almost every single litter, either due to freezing or starvation.” We also take older dogs and those who would perish if something wasn’t done.”
They also gave Kratos something he had probably never experienced before: love and affection.
Carson explained, “He could barely move because he was so dehydrated and emaciated.” “He was just hungry.” And he was extremely pleasant.”
Kratos was accommodated at a rescue facility in Bursa, Turkey. He receives food and medical care on a daily basis.
“They have doghouses, they get food every day, they get fresh water, and they get medical attention,” Carson said of Kratos’ new home.
Kratos has been recovering quite well at the facility.
“He’s been doing fantastic,” Carson said. “His fur is beginning to regrow. He still appears to be in poor health, but we’ve seen this before. We’ve seen how they can recover from near-death situations… we know it’s a long process.”
