Mexican archaeologists have confirmed the existence of an underground chamber and a tunnel in the Pyramid of the Moon, and inside it could be the remains of extraterrestrial beings.
The mysterious secret chamber
Archaeologists have discovered a secret tunnel and hidden chamber beneath the Pyramid of the Moon, originally dedicated to Toltec “underworld” rituals.
* They believe that the ‘passage to the underworld’ could contain inexplicable deformed skulls and other strange objects.
* The discovery of the chamber and tunnel is the result of an initial study using electrical resistivity around the Pyramid of the Moon in June 2017.
Its existence has been confirmed thanks to a joint survey by the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico (INAH) and the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
Verónica Ortega, director of the Integral Conservation Project of the Plaza de la Luna, which is the central square of the Mexican archaeological complex, said that the investigation focuses on a ritual space linked to the “underworld.”
“In the explorations carried out at the end of the eighties of the last century, through tunnels excavated in the body of the pyramid, the archaeologists Rubén Cabrera and Saburo Sugiyama found skeletons of individuals with cranial deformation…

Ortega explained.

“The tunnel is located to the south of the Plaza de la Luna, but it is likely that there is another entrance to the east side.”

Dr. Ortega said that the investigation of the cavity, which is believed to have been used as a chamber, will allow them to determine the connections that this ancient metropolis had with other regions of Mesoamerica, where many civilizations shared a similar culture.
Experts believe that the tunnels could be associated with sacred water flows and the underworld.
Electrical resistivity methods are a form of geophysical surveys that help generate an image of the subsurface. These methods use differences in electrical potential to identify subsurface material. The mysterious chamber is located 8 meters below the pyramid and is 15 meters in diameter.
The tunnel is located to the south of Plaza de la Luna and experts assume that there could be another entrance to the east.
In research carried out in the late 1980s, archaeologists Rubén Cabrera and Saburo Sugiyama discovered skeletons with cranial deformations along with green stone objects. Studies from 2017 gave an indication of the possible existence of a chamber and archaeologists have confirmed the existence of the chamber.
“The finding confirms that the Teotihuacans reproduced the same pattern of tunnels associated with their great monuments, whose function had to be to emulate the underworld.”

The CT scans were performed last June by a team of experts led by Denisse Argote Espino, from the INAH Directorate of Archaeological Studies.
